We toured the park with a very knowledgeable local guide, thanks to Green Pigeon Tours, which handled our driving and touring in Madagascar. The park is in the southern part of the country, much drye… 322janetc的完整评论

We plan to do a 4 or 6 days trek in Isalo, in two weeks. Probably to the Portuguese cave. How should we organize in terms of food, water and cooking gear? We prefer to carry the gear ourselves and not take a porter. Is this possible?

I would highly recommend Tourguidelovemada We used Arsene and he has so many connections to good guides! Thru our 3 weeks with his as private guide, we had local guides in each park, and they were all awesome. In this park we had Roxy, who was SO knowledgeable and spoke good English. I think it would be too tough without porter and guide, very dry, but absolute stunning! We would go back and spend more time there.
May I ask if Piscine natural is clean/clear now? As I read somewhere that there are a lot of sands after cyclone last year. Anyone did canyon de makis-piscine natural-cascade? Is it worthwhile? Or Cascade de Nymphes -piscine noire- piscine bleue? Thanks
答:
It's not clear at the moment. It's wet season now and that apparently makes it super sandy. During dry season is when it's clear. (According to my guide I had there a few days ago.)
Hi Kevin When researching on line tours seem very expensive did you pre-book tours before you travelled or can you do the trips independently and /or book more reasonable tours at the hotels when we stay? Thanks Andrew

Each national park in Madagascar has its own registered guides (e.g. in Isalo they are around 60 I think) that you have to hire to go in. Even if you go with an agency, they will have to book one of these guides for each specific park you go. Which means that, for example, you cannot use the same guide for e.g. Isalo and Andasibe- Mantadia. For the national parks, we booked all our guides on the spot and I would say we had generally very good ones (especially in Andasibe-Mantadia!). However, we had good help from our driver, who would call the guides he knew and they would suggest other ones. What we generally tried to do is to go to the park entrance the day before, where the guide office is, to find a guide there and discuss the itinerary etc with them. The park office also has posted outside the prices for the guides depending on the hike duration so you do not have to bargain. Also, it has a list with all the names of all the registered guides and their phone numbers. So, I would just advise you to go outside the park the day before and arrange it there. You can also check on the threads here for good reviews of guides and call that ones - you will find their names there! Also, Lonely Planet gives the names (and phones) of a few good guides per park. You do not have to book anything in advance! Just go there :)
