Thanks to everyone who have made comment on the question since I have been away a couple of days. We feed the seahorses a local shrimp, which they love. As others suggested, in the wild they will also eat small fish and probably other critters that they can effectively suck up their rather thin snout. Some bigger species of seahorse like the Tasmanian potbelly are capable of pack hunting larger shrimp and tearing them apart by constant hits with their mouths. Hope that helps.
