If you have the time in the Seward area, it's a nice hike and not too hard. We saw a few young kids on the trail. But if you're pressed for time or hoping for a very cool glacier encounter, don't f… HHess19的完整评论

We’re 66 years old and went pretty slow with our group, but we got to the top and I was amazed at the enormity of the glacier and how much it is receded over the years , People should realize global … ttowntriper的完整评论
Can you walk the Exit Glacier Trail in the evening or is it closed? We don't want to do the longer more strenuous hike, but wondering if we can do the viewing trail after dinner one night since the sun is out til 10pm while we are there. Thanks!

On the nps site Christopher mentioned, it states 6:30pm close for summer operational hours. That being said, I don't think they close the gate in the summer as some hikers come back later than expected. I would recommend popping into Exit Glacier Guides down in Seward (where you can rent bear spray from) and ask any other questions pending the time of year you're planning to go! visitor centers in parks have been closed due to covid. Note if you're out early morning or late evening when there are less people around, there will be a higher change of wildlife (bear, moose) encounters. Be safe!
Hi - for those who did a ranger-guided hike: did you arrange before-hand? or are there regularly scheduled hikes (first-come, first-served?) Any additional info and/or suggestions would be appreciated! Thanks!

No need to make arrangements. First come, first serve. We had about 15 in our group. Would highly recommend the ranger tour if you want to learn about the history of the glacier and the ice field. Ranger Ann, a retired teacher, was fabulous!!!
When you say strenuous, how would it be for a 50 year old woman of average fitness?

I just did this last week. I am 51, in average shape/fitness, but slightly overweight. I did have to stop and catch my breath a few times (as my teenagers rolled their eyes at me) but had no real trouble making it as far as I wanted to go. If I had wanted to do the full-hike to the end, I'm sure it would have taken several hours. But going to the 2nd observation area took about 20-30 minutes. You should have no problem!
