Mumbai: Mumbaikars were in for a surprise after the weather in the Maharashtra capital took a dramatic turn causing heavy rains, lightning and a thunderstorm that the locals termed as ‘most violent storm ever’.

Heavy rains accompanied by thunderstorms and lightning lashed several parts of Mumbai late Thursday evening. Due to the showers, waterlogging was reported from some low-lying areas in the metropolis.

The sudden downpour took the commuters by surprise as the India Meteorological Department (IMD) had issued a 'yellow' alert for light to moderate rainfall in the financial capital.

Several parts of Mumbai witnessed moderate to heavy rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms on Thursday (October 10) evening. Though cases of water-logging were few and far between, heavy water-logging was reported in Dadar's Hindmata locality.

IMD predicts heavy rainfall across multiple states, with Mumbai experiencing waterlogging. Clear skies expected in the national capital today.
