RIO DE JANEIRO — Brazil’s President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva underwent surgery for a brain hemorrhage related to a recent fall, the Syrian-Lebanese Hospital in Sao Paulo said Tuesday.

Scans revealed bleeding in the lower-left half of his brain. The diagnosis: The man had an intracerebral hemorrhage (ICH), a type of hemorrhagic stroke in which a blood vessel ruptures in the brain.
