Have you thought about travelling on your own this summer? Well you're probably not alone. That's because 2023 is a popular year for solo travellers, going by what people are searching for online.

Now, almost 20 years later, having backpacked, holidayed, and lived in many different countries alone, from Sri Lanka and Nepal to Colombia and Armenia, I have honed how best to travel solo.

The number of holidaymakers choosing to go it alone is rising, whether in escorted groups, or independently. And it is an active choice, not forced by an inability to find a travelling companion.
