White Sox put pitcher Gio Gonzalez on IL with groin strain The White Sox placed left-hander Gio Gonzalez on the 10-day injured list retroactive to Aug. 27 due to a strained right groin.

Left-hander Gio Gonzalez became a free agent Monday after his release by the New York Yankees. Gonzalez had opted out of his minor league contract with the team.
