2008年10月25日 — The starter bags I was buying for 70 cents each had tightly crumbled (but not shredded) paper around some charcoal and there seemed to be some type of chemical on the paper. It was wrapped in a small sandwich bag. When you light them they just smolder. Even with the blower on there isn't any visible flame but they light coal every time.

2008年7月22日 — Good info! Going from a hand fed to a stoker has a learning curve. I did not think about the holes on the end of the grate "leaking" all the combustion air out. I will cover the entire grate with a thin layer of coal and target the rear area for my fire starter. A few inches of good coal being pushed off will not bankrupt me.

I torch directly into the charcoal for about 45 seconds to get it going, then shut the top door and open the ash door. Only takes a minute or two before you can start putting a little coal on.

Or just a 2-3" long piece of road flare, light it, set on grate, cover with handfulls of coal, start stoker, close door, come back in 15 minutes to a nice fire. Greg L.

2019年1月11日 — Starting it is a real pain. I build a small fire in side and keep adding coal til the coals are hot enough to keep new coal burning. Takes a half hour or more to really get going, maybe an hour. I've seen electric charcoal starters available on amazon.
