2023年11月7日 — My confusion is that he referenced an induction exhaust system that used pvc pipe for the 80% furnace. When I called Alpine (online HVAC company), they told me you can't use pvc pipe with an exhaust fan/blower with an 80% system. It has to be at least a 90% efficient to do that. An 80% needs metal exhaust/chimney. Any thoughts? Thanks.

I was thinking about adding a 12 inch diameter by 8 inch long basket of 1/2 inch wire mesh clamped around the end of the 2-3/8 inch PVC horizontal exhaust vent and also covering the 4 inch PVC air intake opening with the same mesh.

There's a small gap of about 1/8" around each pipe. They sealed around the pvc pipes outside with silicone. They just ran silicone around the pvc on the surface of the siding. Is this enough?

Because of the order of projects I would like to pre-install part of the PVC piping ahead of the furnace install. The furnace manual (Goodman) specifically states not to use rubber couplings but it will be difficult to connect two fixed runs of PVC piping without one.

The exhaust from mid efficiency furnaces rises by gravity. The way it's vented looks dangerous; the exhaust is 300 to 400F+ degrees, anyone who touches that pipe could get third degree burns.
