Best, I would say is Regency, very, very few service issues, they make the best blower on the market, variety of decorative options. Great variety of sizes. Mendota would be next, lots of decorative options, but only 2 sizes.

However I get a ton of south sun and the front half of the house can get uncomfortably hot during the middle of winter. When the sun sets it gets cold again.

You are looking at good brands. I would also look at the Osburn 2400 and the Pacific Energy Summit inserts. PE Alderlea T6, Jotul F602.

There is an exception. The Regency Hearth Heater is a medium sized insert that heats well reasonably without the blower running.

That seemed to mechanically load it somehow to quiet down the rattle. While cleaning it seems like a good idea (it will need it), it didn't really make mine quieter.
