Best Modern 4 banger engine swap - 1990 Daihatsu Rocky?
Apr 20, 2014 · Have a 1990 Daihatsu Rocky and I don't want to swap in a 22RE ... too big, not enough horsepower stock, etc. I own the Rocky because it's different. I don't mind challenging parts availability - Daihatsu still offers parts from Japan so it's actually not a problem.

Need a better rear axle for under my Daihatsu Rocky

Jun 28, 2006 · If you like a challenge and are 100% WILLING TO LEARN, then keep the Rocky. Otherwise, you might want to look into a more appropriate 4x4, preferable one with a solid front axle (this is totally opposite of IFS). I can think of a few examples: early 80's Toyota's, Dodges, and Chevy's , late 70's Fords, or Samurais.

I was hoping there might be another engine out there that would possibly swap into the transmission on the Rocky. I'm on quite a budget but it might actually be cheaper to throw a whole engine in this thing than try to round up the parts for this thing.

Oct 19, 2004 · It turns out that the Rocky arm is indeed nearly flat with about a 1/2"-3/4" of drop, and is about 1/2"-3/4" shorter hole to hole. The more important thing is that the pitman arm has the same number of splines (-1) as a toy pitman arm and it has the same taper. The one catch is that the rocky arm has a solid keyed section in the splines.
