Server rack rails too expensive. What is poor-man's diy options?

The whole cost for me to buy all the rails for all my servers, approaches $500. (For $500 I would just buy another server to stack on my shelves). Looking for options for a short-depth rack mounted TrueNAS server
2023年2月2日 · New Member. So I want to build a TrueNAS server mainly for storage and backup purposes on my home setup. It must be a rack mountable compact server, 1U or 2U and about 30 cm / 12 in of depth (it's a wall mounted rack). I don't need a lot of storage so I'm targeting two 3.5" HDD in mirror, perhaps 16 or 18 TB drives so that would be my raw capacity.

Must have enough power to run the WSL2/Linux subsystem and a couple of Hyper-V virtual machines (1 window, and at least 1 Linux)

On the back side i mounted some 2u cable management on the right side to keep the ethernet cables tidy. Put some egg crate sound dampening foam on the insides. 2015年12月17日 · As Patrick says, by the time you get to a full rack you might have the equivalent of 1500-3000 watts of electric heat coming out, 24/7, which should keep it pretty steady. I'd be interested in what your results are, if you give it a shot. Definitely out some SNMP temperature monitoring on things if you do.
