AAmes Apr 24, 2014 • 9:15 AM. Many times when you have excess fluid build up in the pleural space you can get mucus development called atelectasis. Normally this mucus will pass thru the catheter without issue but it can clog things up sometimes especially if there is a lot of it.

2014年10月24日 · It worked great for about two months or less, then we starting getting a thick bloody sludge and then hardly anything. Stanford Cancer Center said even though there was some fluids remaining the procedure had done its job. Penny had the tube removed while at an office visit at Stanford. It was a piece of cake, no discomfort at all.

2013年5月30日 · Kebbrca2, I think plwsNC raises some great points about stents for draining ascites and either getting the pleural effusion drained through thoracentesis, a Pleurx or Aspira catheter, or the talc procedure (the latter is very uncomfortable/painful so it should be saved for last). I don't think that buildup of fluid is healthy or good for us.

LES99 Dec 2, 2011 • 7:14 AM. I have a lot of experience with these catheters. There are 2 very large studies from 2008 with over 300 patients in each. Study 1 showed patients that had a 1.7% recurrence rate of fluid after removal, the other had a 2.9% recurrence rate of fluid after removal. I would not be too concerned about reaccumulation.

2019年1月20日 · TxN2MIa NSCLC adenocarcinoma. He is on Keytruda. He still has a Pleurx drain which drains about 600ml twice a week. Don't know if the keytruda is working. No tumour has ever been identified on two CT scans but nodes are enlarged. Now pleural effusion is darker and blood stained. Anyone else here had a long term pleurx drain in. Tks

My surgeon in Boston has said that if the catheter is covered properly, one can bathe, swim and do whatever activities you want. The other surgeon has said just the opposite - hand held shower waist down and sponge baths waist up. He also said he didn't think it would help me.
