Dec 7, 2002 · According to the Ring's designs, the pair came to blows, and it was the fact that Smeagol was physically stronger than Deagol that allowed Smeagol to claim the Ring. Therefore I would say that the Ring, knowing that it must somehow get out of the Gladden Fields , put for all its power so that very few wills (if any) could have refused it.

There are pictures of Smeagol and Deagol examining the ring together, the thing is though, Smeagol did not examine the ring with Deagolhe came up behind him and demanded it. I know this, for in a re-inactment of the Fellowship of the Ring I am playing smeagol in this part (it's a play).

Would Sméagol have murdered without the Ring?
Aug 20, 2001 · 1) Smeagol had already the potential to murder his own kind, but the conditions just hadn't been ripe until he saw something he wanted so badly as he wanted the ring. 2) Smeagol didn't have a murderous streak within him, but rather a personal weakness, and vulnerability to evil. I think that 1, and the latter part of 2 are correct.
