Beginning the week of September 12, 2022, the Fisher Library will be resuming its pre-COVID hours. We will be open to both researchers and the general public Monday to Friday between 9 am and 5 pm. Researchers should continue to schedule their visits to the reading room and pre-order their materials via our online Stack Retrieval Form.

The Thomas Fisher Rare Book Library is located at the north-west corner of St. George and Harbord Streets, immediately to the South of the main University Library, Robarts. By public transportation : Take the Bloor Danforth Subway line to St. George Station; exit at the St. George end and walk south two blocks.

Thomas Fisher Rare Book Library Brief History of the Department
The Department of Rare Books and Special Collections was founded in November 1955 by the Chief Librarian, Robert H. Blackburn, when he hired Marion E. Brown, a Canadian graduate of the University of Toronto who had been working in special collections at Brown University.
