What do war department numbers mean on British tanks
Dec 22, 2016 · The Wartime T numbers were replaced in 1949 by ZR numbers so, for example, my dad's Comet T335335 was renumbered to 20ZR65. It wasn't quite the equivalent of a car reg. number...because in many cases, T-numbered tanks etc. ALSO had registration numbers! Better to think of it in modern terms as a War Department "asset number" LOL.

Only in May 1942 did the British start to receive the 6 pounder AT guns and the American Grant Tank wit 75mm gun, capable of hitting the Panzer IV at a similar range. British Tank Crews are widely criticised for "cavalry" tactics ie charging and shooting on the run.

There is not much in the way of markings on either, the tank in the foreground has the name 'ANGEL' painted on the door just below the vision slot. They would appear to be painted 'Jungle green', which is a standard dark olive drab.
