2007年12月17日 · That’s crazy expensive. I’ll bet you can find a good generic gearbox that will bolt up for way less. There are online sources that can match them up. A gear box is fairly universal, if you match the shaft sizes, bolt pattern and horsepower rating. My Woods model 720X is pretty stout, and I think I paid around $500 for the entire box.

I took the gear box apart without the need to dismount the stump jumper and blades. I did it all from the top of the mower. I was able to pull out the Crown gear and the Pinion gear (both of them lost teeth).

2006年5月27日 · Seals are even good at the moment. I bought some extra shims in case they end up needed to get the backlash to spec. I'll need to order seals for the input shaft. I thought about a used hog in the same price range, but mine would have looked just like it before the gearbox went TU. I felt better starting with the running gear known to be good.

If it's full, check for water. bush hog gear boxes are notorious for collecting water/condensation. Use a suction pump to remove old oil.

Turn it upside down and make a broadcast spreader that will spread fertilizer far and wide in a single pass. Reverse the box by connecting the tractor PTO to the output and make a cement mixer.

2004年12月23日 · Anyway, it required a high quality puller, a 3/4" impact driver, a torch, and a drift pin from the top side of the cutter driven with a 16# sledge. Once the blade bar was off the shaft I could easily remove the gear box. I then had to disassemble the gear box to get the shaft out followed by the shaft seal.

2008年5月30日 · I'm a greenhorn, and looking to buy a bush hog. I've got two questions. What does the gear box rating mean. I see some are 40 hp and others are 60 hp. Does that mean my tractor pto hp shouldn't exceed those gear box hp ratings? Second, is a slip clutch worth the extra money? I'll be cutting mostly pastures. Thanks for all the help you're giving me!
