Adding weight to the trunk will only help the rear wheels and might even hurt traction in the front if the weight is behind the rear axle.

A bigger reason for expensive cars using rwd is the handling, with fwd cars tending to understeer, while rwd cars can be more neutral in their handling. Partly due to the lower % of total weight on the front wheels for a rwd car.

I had a rear drive Caprice with positraction and good winter tires and never got stuck. Small rear drive cars with large engines and poor weight distribution, are bad news however. No, the car is not driven by one front wheel. The differential applies equal torque to both front axles. It doesn’t favor one wheel or the other.
