8mm Forum: Cleaning and Lubricating Old Films
2011年5月15日 · What do you recommend for cleaning and/or lubricating films - both products to use, and means to apply the product? Standard 8 mm, although I'd like to acquire a super 8 and 16 mm projector eventually. How often should a film be cleaned, and how often lubricated?

2020年7月23日 · I agree Dominique a manual rewinder is the best way to clean 8mm films. I find this way one can control how fast or slow the film travels through the cleaner. I also use Filmguard on my Super 8 and Regular 8 films.

2013年1月10日 · If anything you don't really need to clean the film with cleaning solvents unless necessary. You can easily by Pec Pads from ebay for $10, cut one sheet into thirds and use that to clean the film without any solution, it will do the job.

2017年7月29日 · I use 100% Isopropyl Alcolhol to clean the gates and film paths on projectors. I've never thought of using it to clean films. You're better off using something safer like FilmGuard as it not only cleans but lubricates as well.

2016年12月30日 · All of this cleaning is far better attempted with lamp and lens removed for better access. Once you have given these rectangular shaped orifices a detailed clean, you should get crisp, sharp images upon projecting a film, all around the edges of the projected image.
8mm Forum: Digitize Sound from 8MM?
2017年12月18日 · Anyone know a good way of transferring the sound off an 8MM/Super 8 with Sound? I am thinking of using a wolverine to transfer the image, then clean in post, but some reels have sound too. I'm happy to transfer the sound seperately and sync in post, but don't know a good way to get the cleanest possible sound.
Cleaning old 8mm film
2022年11月7日 · I use Isopropyl to clean vintage films and let dry prior to scanning/ film trasfer. Once transfer is complete use FilmGuard to finish the job. It will help lubricate your old films and protect them during projection.
