2016年9月19日 · Wood drys really fast at first. Maple will lose 1/2 the water that its going to lose in about 2 sunny summer weeks. It also starts at about 85% fresh off the stump so I'm not so sure your readings were accurate. Keep in mind a moisture meter is worthless above the mid thirties, +- species dependent.

(If the stack is more than one stack wide, the sun would strike only one stack.) Orient the stack for maximum sun. Obviously, the sun will only strike one end of the splits. The other stack could be the same, just under a shed.

Now, does it matter in reality for 16" vs. 18" splits for example, that's where an experiment can be fun. Cheers!

Your chimney gives the best indication if your wood is dry. Inspect it every 2 weeks or so, after burning about 6 weeks, clean it & see how much creosote you get.

2024年8月29日 · I’ve been doing the wood long enough to know that oak is slow to dry. what do you all think about the possibility of it drying out to possibly low 20’s moisture content in about a year if split small, like 2-3 inch diameter. My drying area I would describe as “ fair”, location-wise . It’s red oak, so I know splitting should be easy.
